Tips for Achieving the Perfect Home Office

Jul 07, 10 Tips for Achieving the Perfect Home Office

Its seems that everyday people are spending more and more time in front of their computer. So wouldn’t it make sense that the place that you spend a great chunk of your time be productive and relaxing? In this post we have compiled a few tips to help you achieve the perfect home office, because sometimes a wallpaper can only add a limited amount of beauty to a cluttered environment.

1) Declutter

Before you embark on spicing up your home office you first need to take an inventory of everything in the room. Look for all the things that you haven’t used for weeks, months, or even years. Determine what office supplies you need, for all the others give away, or use in another room in your home

2) Light

I am someone who feels most productive in a well lit environment, otherwise I tend to feel sleepy. The simplest way to brighten up your home office is to open up some windows or get new window treatments. Sometimes however the color of the walls might have an impact on your mood. I would recommend that if you currently have dark walls, take a day to paint. Some optimal colors would be white, light green, light yellow, any light color as it will make you feel more energized. Lastly you could also bring in some new lightening fixtures that will brighten up your space.

3) Clean

This tip is accurate for any room or space you are in. When your environment is clean, so is your mind to be creative and productive. If you have trash, old newspapers, and 100 magazine subscriptions cluttering your desk, clean it up!

4) Bring in some life

Since you will be spending a large chunk of your time inside, you should at least bring some of the outdoors to you. Bring in some plants into your home office. Plants help to add beauty and fresh air to you home office. I personally have a bamboo plant which is really easy to maintain, and it looks great!

5) Organize

Divide your room into zones. 1 – Storage: Items that can go in a closet, such as office supplies, and rarely used reference materials. 2 – Desk Items: Only the bare necessities, pens/pencils, computer, stapler and tape. Everything else needs a home inside of a desk drawer to prevent a cluttered desk. 3 – Display: For books, and magazines use organizers that go on a bookshelf. These organizers can group them together, and be reached in a moment. A few pictures and mementos can be used to personalize your space.

Your home office should be a place where you can feel both comfortable and productive. All it takes is a little work and maintenance.

    - Replaced desk with low-lying unit.
    - Replaced office chair with reclining, 3-seat sofa.
    - Purchased a wireless k/b and mouse.
    - Turned up the amp.
    - Closed over the curtains.

So how are the outdoors, these days?
